The Marion County Republicans are pleased to announce the 2nd Annual Essay Contest scholarship opportunity for students aged 17-22 who are planning to or are attending college, technical school or other certified post-secondary educational pursuits.
The fund was set up to provide at least $1,000 per year for at least 10 years, with winners being selected based upon the quality of a 1,000-1,200-word essay on a different topic each year. This year's hopefuls will submit essays speaking to Why I Love being An American. This year's fund has $10,000 available for scholarships.
This scholarship is merit-based and the first one was awarded in September 2019 to three individuals: Grace Condello, Anna Boles, and Lincoln Van Smoorenburg. Previous essay winners are eligible for this year's scholarship as long as they meet all other criteria. Last year's grand prize winning essay is here and scholarship information here.
Applications and guidelines may be downloaded here. Completed materials for the 2020 scholarship are due by June 1, 2020. Anyone wishing to contribute to the fund may do so here. This is a dedicated fund and all donations will be used exclusively for the scholarship. For more information visit the scholarship information page or call (503) 364-0747.
