MCRCC Weekly Wrap — December 26, 2013

Christmas 2013 is now in the history books and as we look forward to 2014, there is reason to be optimistic, to be hopeful. We must also keep our sleeves rolled up and prepare for a year of hard work to put great conservative candidates in to local elected office!

A quick check of the Oregon Secretary of State's webpage shows that Marion County Democrats have a cash-on-hand balance of almost $20K! We all know that Democrats are largely funded by unions, unions whose members are required to contribute anywhere from $400 - $1400 annually, whether they support Democrats or not. Are you willing to let unions continue to have access to the state's coffers? For the price of one coffee drink a month, you can shift the financial balance and help to support Republican candidates that share your values.

Here's how you can help us change and impact the message: There are 56,000 registered Republicans in Marion County. If 2 out of 10 of them decide it's their money they want winning elections, and contributed monthly, that would mean $40,000 per month for MCGOP to spend on messaging about candidates and issues. That is only about 11,000 of the 56,000 registered. It is enough to OUTSPEND unions and it would also mean the conservative MCGOP would drive the political climate at the capitol...not the unions.

Now, there is also cause for optimism as we approach the New Year. A recent CNN Poll shows that the GOP has an edge in early midterm indicators:

The 13-point swing over the past two months follows a political uproar over Obamacare, which included the botched rollout of and controversy over the possibility of insurance policy cancelations due primarily to the new health law.

While there is much to be hopeful and enthusiastic about for 2014, the need for action and commitment is critical. Oregon allows you to subtract donations to political groups or campaigns from your state taxes — up to $50 for individuals and $100 for couples filing jointly. If you owe taxes, you can subtract your contribution from what you owe. If the state owes you a refund, they will add it to your refund check. This is a tax credit, not a deduction, so every dollar comes back to you! Making a donation to the MCGOP will ensure local conservative candidates receive the help and support they need to win local elections, elections that have a direct impact on your daily life.

As we say farewell to 2013 and prepare to ring in 2014, the Marion County GOP would like to wish you and yours a very Happy New Year!
