Welcome to the Marion County GOP

Marion County is the home of Oregon's beautiful capital, Salem, and is a hub for activity both political and cultural. As Marion County is the hub of Oregon, so too is this website the hub for Marion County Republicans.

We believe that the aim of politics is to serve the community by providing them with choices. From policy to leadership, the American system works because the citizens — the voters — are given a choice. Our goal is to present to you, as voters, a viable choice that meets your needs as citizens.

We invite you to get to know us. Use the links below to peruse our web site, engage with us on Facebook, attend one or more of our events, or visit our office. Feel free to reach out through e-mail to any of the four officers or use the contact form to ask questions or make comments about what you find here. We look forward to the opportunity.

    HD25 Nomination Mtg

    Rep. Bill PostTownhall

Oregon House District 25 is to be without representation in the legislature. Rep. Bill Post has moved to Fallon, NV and resigned his office effective 30 November. For the last seven years constituents have shown their appreciation for his service by electing and re-electing him with overwhelming majorities. In spite of his initial goal to serve just two terms, he ended up being elected to four.

On Friday, 10 December, Republican PCPs from the two counties drawn into the district will meet to nominate candidates to fill the vacant seat. Marion County Republicans from Keizer, St. Paul, and the farms lining OR 219 to Newberg, will join fellow leaders from Yamhill County's Newberg and precincts north of town up to the Washington County line in Keizer to meet and hear from those who have expressed the desire to step into the position. They will then decide whose names they will forward on to the commissioners of the counties for the final choice.

PCPs will cast their votes weighted to represent the number of Republican voters in their precincts. For example, the vote of a sole PCP from a precinct with 1,000 voters will have greater weight than that of a pair of PCPs from a precinct with 1,600 voters since each would represent half. By the same token, the votes cast by the commissioners will also be weighted, with Polk County having about the same weight as those of the other three combined.

Those who wish to be candidates must submit their SEL 145 [PDF] to Becky Mitts, ORP Secretary, by 9:00 PM Tuesday, 7 December. The meeting will convene at a time yet to be arranged. PCPs should begin arriving a half-hour prior when credentialing will begin. PCPs will need to provide approved photo ID.
