Cedric Hayden — District 6

It appears that redistricting handed Republicans another prize. Senate District 6 had long been fairly compact around Eugene and Springfield, bleeding into southern Linn County, and comfortably in Democrat hands. In 2021, Democrats expanded the boundary to reach north into almost all of Linn County and south into rural Douglas County. Now with more than 11,000 Republican voters than Democrat, Cedric Hayden, who had already been in the House for four terms, could not pass up the opportunity to move to the other side of the Capitol. He easily won election, capturing 71% of votes cast on 63% turnout.

For the 82nd Legislative Assembly Sen. Hayden will serve on three committees. He is the vice-chair of the Senate Committee On Health Care, a natural fit given his training and career as a dentist. His assignment to the Senate Committee On Energy and Environment is also a pretty good fit since he lives on and operates a small ranch in southern Oregon. Finally, his extensive charitable work both at home and overseas, providing free and low-cost dental services to those without access or means to such care, will inform his work on the Joint Committee On Ways and Means Subcommittee On Human Services.
