So-called healthcare reform often tops the news cycle. At the federal level the common tag of "Obamacare" describes the much-maligned law currently facing a challenge before the Supreme Court regarding its unconstitutionality. In Oregon, healthcare transformation is taking shape under the guiding hand of Gov. Kitzhaber; will we call it "KitzCare"?

State Senator Fred Girod, a dentist by day, is qualified, as few others are, to address this state's efforts to bring under some control the spiraling costs of underwriting the healthcare of more than 600,000 Oregonians. With the formation of Coordinated Care Organizations (CCO) well underway and an infusion of big cash — $1.9 billion over the next ten years — will the state succeed where others have failed or has Oregon embarked on another fool's errand?

Set aside the first Wednesday of each month and plan to get up a little earlier than usual in order to attend the Marion County Republicans Early-Bird Breakfast.
