Still renowned for her Kansas City-style "Jackie's Ribs" barbeque, Senator Jackie Winters traces her government service all the way back to the administration of Gov. Tom McCall who hired her to his staff in 1969. Later, in 1979, Gov. Vic Atiyeh appointed her to be Ombudsman.

At age 73, Senator Winters describes herself as the "senior" member of the Marion County delegation at the State Capitol. She was first elected to the House in 1998; she won election to the Senate in 2002, after serving two terms there. This year she is seeking her third term as senator. During the 2009 session, she sat as Vice-Chair on the Senate's Conduct Committee. She also sat on the Joint Ways and Means Committee; as a member she joined three sub-committees: Capital Construction and Information Technology; General Government, of which she was Co-Chair; and Human Services. For the interim she was appointed to the E-Board and sat on its Committee on Human Services. She also sat on the Senate's Human Services and Rural Health Policy Committee.

For the 2011 session, Sen. Winters again will sit on the Joint Ways and Means Committee; again she will sit on its sub-committee on Human Services and this time she will be Co-Chair of the Sub-Committee on Public Safety.
