Volunteers Wanted

Develop a Personal Action Plan

Fellow Republican! We need your help. Below are several ways to get involved to help maintain the Republican majority in Marion County. If any of the ideas in the last two sections appeals to you, be sure to sign up here to let us know of your desire to help. We will get back to you right away with information on the next opportunity to participate.

Stay Informed on the Issues:

  • Attend a Marion County GOP Meeting
  • Sign up for the State Republican House and/or Senate Caucus e-mail updates
  • Subscribe to a conservative magazine
  • Visit a national conservative website daily (use our Links page as a jumping-off point)
  • Visit Oregon Watchdog daily
  • Listen to conservative talk radio — KYKN (1430-AM), KPJC (1220-AM), KPAM (860-AM), KXL (750-AM) are good sources
  • Read a Cascade Policy Institute report on at least one of your top issues

Make New Connections:

  • Do a postcard mailer to the Republicans in your neighborhood
  • Sign up a friend for the Oregon GOP newsletter
  • Meet and greet Republican neighbors on your street
  • Send an e-mail inviting your Republican friends to join us

Influence relatives, colleagues, friends, and neighbors:

  • Speak up and share your GOP points of view
  • Point out "over-the-top" or unfair Democrat behavior
  • Make it known that you're informed and on top of the issues
  • Be a source of GOP information, materials, buttons, stickers, signs, etc.
  • Forward pro-GOP e-mails, news articles, reports, editorials, and cartoons
  • Offer to help with their voting decisions by explaining measures and candidates; make recommendations
  • Help blunt Democrat negative attacks and correct liberal misinformation

Reach out to the public:

  • March with the GOP in a local parade (e.g. 4th of July, Memorial Day, local festivals)
  • Drive GOP vehicles in parades
  • Help out at the GOP booth at the state and county fairs, air shows, etc.
  • Organize and man a booth in a local festival or farmer's market
  • Help with youth outreach
  • Hand out GOP information to voters
  • Gather petition signatures
  • Do public speaking for the GOP

Talk to the media:

  • Write a letter to the editor of a local newspaper or news website
  • Call in and express your opinion on a talk radio program, especially one addressing Oregon issues (e.g. Lars Larson, Victoria Taft)
  • Submit a comment on a "Blog"

Boost your awareness of local government:

  • Attend a city council meeting
  • Attend a local school board meeting
  • Attend a parks or water or fire district board meeting
  • Attend your Neighborhood or Homeowners Association meeting

Influence your lawmakers:

  • Attend a local public official town hall (Even take your video camera to record the outrageous things you hear!)
  • Call, e-mail, and/or mail your state representative, state senator, Congress critter, or county commissioners. Use our Elected Officials pages to identify them
  • Send a note of encouragement to a good Republican legislator and/or executive
  • Testify at a public hearing at the State Capitol, County Commission, or City Council

Take the lead:

  • Apply to be a Precinct Committee Person
  • Run for a Neighborhood or Homeowners Association officer position
  • Apply for a local board or commission appointment (there are often open spots)
  • Run for local elective office

Help build the party:

  • Register GOP voters
  • Enter data
  • Help with fundraising efforts
  • Help prepare GOP mailings
  • Join the Newsletter committee
  • Join the Events committee
  • Help with GOP office work
  • Attend GOP rallies

Get out the vote (GOTV):

  • Knock on doors to spread the word about our candidates and issues
  • Deliver campaign materials door to door
  • Drive walkers going door to door
  • Make telephone calls at a phone banking or call-down effort
  • Make phone calls from home
  • Recruit volunteers
  • Put a sign in your yard or window
  • Deliver and "plant" lawn signs and field signs
  • Do Poll-watching/ballot-count monitoring at Elections HQ
