Legislative redistricting stemming from the 2010 census extended District 39 into Marion County for the first time. The rural sliver of the county running north from Aurora to Arndt Road between the Aurora State Airport and Airport Rd. and the Pudding River is the new Marion County real estate included in the district. Basically, this change "straightens out" the line between Districts 18 and 39 that had followed the twists and turns of the Pudding River separating Marion and Clackamas counties.
Representative Kennemer has been serving District 39 since his election in November 2008. Rep. Kennemer had previously served in the legislature from 1987 to 1996 as a senator representing the Milwaukie area. He left the Senate when elected to the Clackamas Board of Commissioners, where he served until his election to the House.
During the 2011 and 2012 sessions, Rep. Kennemer co-chaired the House Business and Labor Committee and was Co-Vice Chair of the House Health Care Committee. Additionally, he served on two extra-legislative bodies addressing state concerns: the Governor's Workforce Development Task Force and the Health Systems Transformation Team.
For the 2013 session, Rep. Kennemer will continue on the Business and Labor Committee as Vice-Chair and the Health Care Committee. He will join Rep. Vicki Berger on the Rules Committee.
