Some have said that the most dangerous times in the life of a state are when the legislature is in session. That's one reason why rational people opposed the measure in 2010 that brought Oregon annual sessions. Despite the promise of fewer total days spent in Salem over the course of a two-year cycle — the annual sessions are time-constrained in contrast to the open-ended biennial session — the strains placed on good-government (read limited government) activists from having to armor up every year are severe.

Once again we are killing ourselves. And once again we are bringing in the left-leaning media as all-too-willing accomplices. All in the name of doctrinaire purity (for which the media could not care less! — they just come along to enjoy the carnage). Of course, in this case, the victim did not help his case any.

Celebrate the Constitution: 17 September

Saturday, 17 September 2011, was Constitution Day, marking the 234^th anniversary of the ratification of the Constitution of the United States.

At the just-passed state central committee meeting of the Oregon Republican Party one often heard the opinion expressed that the 2012 election is going to be the most important election in our lifetime. As such, it is imperative that we have all of our ducks in a row so that we are ready to go at a moment's notice. That is why I was quite glad that the central committee chose this time to change the year we hold our state convention at which we establish our platform from even-numbered years to odd-numbered years.
