We urge all PCPs to attend this meeting.

New Executive Committee Officers Elected

At our bi-annual organizational meeting PCPs elected or re-elected during the 2008 Primary election in May selected the officers who will lead the Marion County Republicans for the next two years. We definitely look forward to the challenges facing us as we continue to grow and reach out to the residents of Marion County. Following is the new executive committee:

Chair:   Pat Hazel
Vice-Chair:   Wayne Brady
Secretary:   Ryan Evenson
Treasurer:   David Schreffler
Delegates to State Central Committee (4):  Andrea Hoffman, Ruth Pike, Tyler Smith, Jan Williamson
Alternate Delegates (6):  Drew Wright, Craig Myers, Marc Lucca, Joyce Waggoner, Davis Dyer, Rick Hickey

Congratulations to all! Now, full speed ahead!

Marion County Central Committee Organizational Meeting

Thursday, 20 November, beginning at 7:00 at the Comfort Inn Suites, 1775 Freeway Ct. NE. This location is a change from past meetings. This is near the NE corner of Market & Hawthorne, next to the Newport Bay restaurant (entrance off Hawthorne).

This is the bi-annual meeting at which we elect executive officers who will serve us for the next two years along with delegates and alternates who will represent our county to the State Central Committee. This is the single-most important meeting for PCPs to attend. NOTE: Registration/check-in is vital for this meeting; please arrive as close to 6:30 as possible so that we can begin business by 7:00. Please do not be late. Let's see everybody there.

Call for Central Committee Meeting, Thursday 11 September

The meeting will be held at the Marion County Fire District 1 Station, 300 Cordon Road NE, Salem. Registration will begin at 6:30 with Call to Order at 7:00. The station is about three blocks north of State Street, adjacent to the Holland Little League complex. Parking is behind the building.

At the meeting we will receive updates on Marion County campaigns and efforts to support state and national campaigns. We will review the ballot measures appearing on the general election ballot to discern what official statments to support and/or oppose specific titles we will issue. We will discuss the opportunity to publish a voters guide that we will be able to distribute along with other campaign materials.

The McCain campaign is bringing extra resources to Oregon because they believe he can win here. Marion County and the Mid-Willamette Valley is in the crosshairs of the effort. Already, Chase Tedrow, Victory 2008 coordinator for the area reports that campaign activities are exceeding state goals. We need to keep it up, as well as step up activities for our other fine candidates.

Wayne promises to introduce some new key volunteers who will really make a difference in the Party. Along with more PCP appointments, this meeting will be one not to miss as we shift into high gear for the final sprint to 4 November. Here's looking forward to seeing everyone there.

Congressional District 5 Convention, 12 July

CD 5, along with the other four congressional districts in the state, will hold its quadrennial convention 12 July. The convention will convene at West Salem High School, 1776 Titan Dr. NW, near the intersection of Orchard Heights Rd NW and Doaks Ferry Rd NW. The primary purpose of this convention is to choose delegates to the Republican National Convention, being held this year in Minneapolis-St. Paul, Minnesota, 1-4 September. District executive officers will also be elected to serve a four-year term (2012). Only PCPs elected on 20 May 2008 may vote for these delegates and officers.

Those who wish to be considered for the honor of representing either the congressional district, or the state (as an at-large delegate/alternate), must file (download form (pdf)) with the State party office and pay a $50 filing fee. One may place one's name into nomination for any or all of the four spots: District delegate/alternate delegate and at-large delegate/alternate. To be selected as an at-large delegate/alternate, the votes will be tallied from all five districts voting that day.

Oregon Republican Party State Convention, 6-7 June

The Oregon Republican Party has issued the Official Call (pdf) to the state convention. To be held this year in Salem at the Red Lion Hotel, the convention will focus on revising the state party's platform and selecting presidential electors who would cast their votes for John McCain when the Electoral College convenes in December should he win in the state of Oregon.

To attend and participate, you must either already be an elected member to the county executive committee, serving as Chair, Vice-Chair, or delegate/alternate to the State Central Committee, or be elected by the county Central Committee as one of eleven "bonus" delegates/alternates at the county meeting (see below).

All participants must pre-register (pdf) before Monday, 2 June; there will be no opportunity to register at the site on the days of the convention. If participants register before 22 May, they will enjoy a $10 discount off the all-inclusive (sessions and all meals) registration fee. Delegates may also choose to register for only the sessions and select meals as desired. See the registration form (pdf) for options and related costs.

Call for Central Committee Meeting, Tuesday 13 May

The meeting will be held at the Marion County Fire District Regional Training Center, 4910 Brooklake Rd NE, Salem (Brooks). Registration will begin at 6:30 with Call to Order at 7:00. The center is about one block east of the railroad tracks. To reach it from I-5, take exit 263 and travel east toward Brooks for about two-thirds of a mile; the building will be on your right. From 99E, turn west at the signal marking the intersection with Brooklake Rd; the building will be on your left about a block distant. Parking is behind the building.

The purpose of the meeting is to select eleven delegates and eleven alternates to represent Marion County, along with the Chair, Vice-Chair, and delegates and alternates already serving on the Central Committee, at the State Republican Convention which will be held in Salem over Friday and Saturday, 6-7 June. Along with that fundamental item of business we will be able to hear from candidates for Congress Mike Erickson and Kevin Mannix and candidates for Oregon House District 17 Bruce Cuff, Marc Lucca, Sherrie Sprenger, and Cliff Wooten (just in case you have not already turned in your ballot).

The principal order of business for the state convention is to update the party platform. We encourage all Republicans to attend the state convention. Only those elected by county central committees, however, may do the work of drafting revisions and approving the final document. If you are passionate about the party and its platform, you should be going to the convention as a delegate or alternate. Be prepared to tell the central committee why we should send you. We will vote by secret ballot; only current PCPs may vote.

This is an important year for both Oregon and the nation. We need to be fully committed to help in any way possible. Come to the meeting to find out about the many opportunities to help us elect Republicans.

Action Plan Status Report

We have been meeting in workshops every two weeks to get reports on progress and plan for the future. The attendees at these workshops are primarily members of the eight committees that we created as part of the Action Plan of the Marion County Republican Party adopted earlier this year.

Check the following list of active committees, each with a brief description of its primary task, for one in which you can get involved:

•   Affiliate Liaison — Coordinates activities of MCRCC, Capitol City Republican Women, Valley Pachyderm Club, and College Republicans
•   Candidate Development — Recruit and support candidates for elective offices in Marion County
•   Communications & Education — Improve communications, publicity, and voter education. This includes a newsletter, this web site, and working with the press.
•   Finance & Budget — Prepare and monitor annual budgets; generally assist the Treasurer
•   Republican Registration — Maximize Republican Party registration in the County
•   Revenue Development — Raise the funds required to allow the MCRCC to fulfill its obligations
•   Special Events — Organize and manage event participation in parades, fairs, and other public events, as well as MCRCC events.
•   Logistics — Provide logistical support for the functions and activities of the MCRCC.

We have about 20 people who are very active in these workshops; we really need more participants. If you would like to help the party prepare for 2008, please contact me at the phone number below or e-mail me.

In addition to people to work on the committees listed above, we need volunteers to help with our precinct work. You could be in charge of a House district, a precinct, or a part of a precinct. This is the front line that makes a difference in getting out the vote. Although the most intense work occurs as we approack election day, there is plenty of work to do now. Please consider signing up for one of these positions.
