Let's Get Blogging!

This page provides information and instruction for joining the Marion County Republicans' community of bloggers. We expect this community to grow in participation and influence over the coming months as we explore and advocate issues important to Marion County from a (typically) conservative Republican perspective. 2010 is an important election year so we have a lot of ground to cover and work to do.

Wherefor a "Blog"?

A Web log, commonly known as a "blog", is a vehicle for personal expression posted so that anyone and everyone can read it [and weep -- or celebrate for that matter] along with you. More importantly, as you permit, readers can post comments and thus join in somewhat with your experience and/or thought process.

To author a blog here you should be at least one of the following. On the other hand, anyone may post comments to a blog post:

• A Republican elected official serving a Marion County constituency
• A Republican candidate for elective office serving a Marion County constituency
• A member of the Marion County Republican Executive Committee
• A member of the Marion County Republican Central Committee

You must register to create your blog. Press the Log In button on the left to start. For ease of referencing and consistency, PCPs (i.e. members of the Central Committee) should name their blogs by identifying the city or area covered by their precincts followed by their precinct numbers (e.g. Keizer-406). Other authors can model their naming schemes similarly. When you register you will need to provide your e-mail address so that the admin can send you a temporary password. You will log into the blog with that password; please take care to change it immediately.

You may wish to read and/or download the new tutorial document that will assist you step by step to effectively set up, secure, and utilize the features available for your blogging pleasure. Illustrated with actual entries from the Marion County Republicans Blogs, you can use it to overcome any hesitation or feelings of inadequacy you might experience.

You do not need register or log in to post comments to any blog. There are two ways to post comments. If you are in a particular blog, reading all the posts, go to the end of the post to which you wish to add a comment; select the Comments link (it will either cite the number of comments already posted or say "No Comments"); and write your comment in the text area box. If you are in a particular post, having selected one from the "Most Recent" postings list on this page or the Blogs portal/home page, simply go to the end of the post and write your comment in the text area box you will find there. Press the Submit button to post/publish the comment.

You can go directly to the Marion County Republicans Blogs portal (home) at blog.MarionCountyGOP.org. On that page you will be able to view the list of all the blogs active on our site and choose the one(s) you want to read and to which you want to comment. From the portal you will also be able to log into your blog to write new posts and/or respond to the comments from others. Be sure to read the information on the portal page regarding monitoring of blogs and posts. Although you will be able to exert control over your own blog, the admin reserves the right to close down your blog for offensive posts or material deemed contrary to the best interests of the Marion County Republican Party.
